Listing Description

The Koshi River system includes the Bhote Koshi, a river that flows through Nepal. It is the upper Sun Kosi river channel, also called Poiqu in Tibet. Adventure tourism is very common in the Bhote Koshi valley, especially rafting and kayaking.

The Zhangzangbo Glacier in Tibet is where the Bhote Koshi and Poiqu rivers originate. The river, known as Bhote Koshi, emerges from the Lumi Chimi lake and goes into Nepal. From the Bahrabise village on, it is referred to as Sun Koshi.

In the moraine-dammed Zhangzangbu-Cho Lake near the head of the Bhote Koshi, a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood occurred in July 1981, resulting in a debris flow that destroyed bridges and stretches of highway.

In Nepali, “kosi” signifies river and “bhote” or “bhotiya” means Tibetan. The river is known in Chinese as Bōtè Kēxī.

The main draws of Bhote Koshi are tourism and sports. White river rafting and bungee jumping are two of the most well-liked adventure sports in Bhote Koshi. Jumping over a high suspension bridge over a river while experiencing the sensation of free-falling before being pulled back up by a bungee cord is known as bungy jumping. White water rafting, on the other hand, involves navigating the rapids of the river in an inflatable raft with a team of paddlers. A thrilling and difficult location for both bungee jumping and white water rafting, the Bhote Koshi river is renowned for its high grade and continual rapids.

The river has a 15 m per km grade and is used for rafting and kayaking. With rapids that are class IV-V at high flow and class III at lower levels, it is the steepest river that can be rafted in Nepal. The river creates a direct and steep plunge at the top before relaxing to calmer streams and pools after a 46-kilometer course at the Lamosunga dam.

The “ultimate experience” is regarded to be swinging over the Bhote Koshi or bungee jumping. One rapid flows into the next along the steep, uninterrupted river. For those looking for an exhilarating experience, adventure seekers frequently travel to the Bhote Koshi valley.

Nepal Tourism Hub recommends the Bhote Koshi as a stunning river valley in Nepal that provides thrilling adventure tourism activities including rafting, kayaking, and bungee jumping. Adventure seekers who desire to float Nepal’s steepest river should definitely visit this place.
