Mechinagar (Nepali: मेचीनगर) is a municipality in Jhapa District, Mechi Zone, Nepal and is the main entry point from India on Nepal’s eastern border. Nepal’s custom office is in Kakarvitta (Nepali: काँकडभिट्टा), a section of the municipality. The city is almost 475 KM south east of the capital city Kathmandu and 115 KM east of the state capital of Province One Biratnagar.

Mechinagar municipality was created by combining Dhulabari (Nepali: धुलाबारी) & Kakarbhitta Village Development Committee. The Municipality have expanded its territory by adding nearby VDCs Bahundangi, Duhagadhi, Jyamirgadhi & Dhaijan in 2073 BS (2017 AD). The population of the expanded city is 111,737 (as of 2011 Censius) and area of 192.52 Sq.Km. The municipality stands has municipality with the highest population in the country.
