General Information

Hetauda is a sub-metropolitan city located at the intersection of the Tribhuvan Highway and the Mahendra Highway in the Makwanpur District of the Narayani Zone of southern Nepal. It serves as the administrative center for the Makwanpur District, the Central Development Area of Nepal, and as the temporary state capital of Province No. 3. One of Nepal’s largest cities, Hetauda, is known as a “Green city” due to the trees that have been planted on either side of the roads.

Geographically, Hetauda City is situated 76 kilometers away from Kathmandu, the capital city, by the fast track, 132 kilometers away via the Daman-Tribhuvan Highway, and 224 kilometers away via Narayangadh. After the construction of a new Kanti Lokpath highway in May 2018, it has only taken two hours to go from Hetauda to Kathmandu. Moreover, the first tunneling road, which will supposedly cut the distance between Hetauda and Kathmandu in half, is currently being built. It is anticipated that it will take just 57 minutes and 13 seconds to go from Kathmandu to Hetauda using the tunnel road.

Hetauda City is located in the nation’s core development region, namely in the heart of the Makwanpur district. It is located between 300 and 390 meters above sea level at a latitude and longitude of 27°25′ N and 85°02′ E, respectively. The city has a total area of 261 km2, of which 254 km2 (or 97% of it) is land and the remaining 7 km2 (3%) is water. The city is part of a significant industrial sector and is bounded by three rivers: the Rapti to the west, the Samari to the north, and the Karra to the south. Because of its proximity to the Tribhuvan Highway, the community expanded, and later it was connected to the Mahendra Highway, also known as the East-West-Highway.

Hetauda has a total population of 84,775 as of the 2018 census. It received recognition as Nepal’s cleanest city in 2016 and 2017. In addition to the surrounding natural beauty, this city is home to a variety of ancient landmarks, including Makawanpur Gadhi and Pathivara Devi Temple. At a height of 1,076 meters, the medieval fort of Makawanpur Gadhi offers a beautiful perspective of the valley. Visitors can enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys from the top of the hill where Pathivara Devi Temple is situated.

Hetauda is a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty as well as the historical landmarks and sacred locations it offers. The Churia hills surround the city, offering a beautiful perspective of the valley. Tourists can have a relaxing and revitalizing experience thanks to the city’s lush surroundings and the trees that have been planted on either side of the road. Due to its mountainous topography, Hetauda is a fantastic place for trekking and hiking. There are many parks and gardens in the city where visitors may unwind and take in the city’s natural beauty.

Nepal Tourism Hub recommends Hetauda as a fantastic location for those who want to take in Nepal’s natural beauty as well as its historical and religious monuments. The city is easily reachable from Kathmandu, the country’s capital, and the recently built tunneling road will make the trip much simpler. For those who desire a clean and healthy environment, Hetauda’s reputation as the cleanest city in Nepal is an extra benefit.
