General Information

The Serene Valley Haven

Perched on a scenic plateau at the confluence of the Roshi and Ladku rivers in Kavrepalanchok District (Bagmati Province), Balthali Village (बाल्थली गाउँ) is one of the most idyllic and peaceful rural retreats near the Kathmandu Valley. Renowned for its emerald terraced farmlands, traditional Tamang and Newar hamlets, sweeping Himalayan vistas (stretching from Ganesh Himal to Langtang and Dorje Lakpa), and easy hiking trails, Balthali offers an authentic, unhurried escape into traditional countryside life.

Rural Charm, Nature Walks & Himalayan Panoramas

Located just 40 km east of the capital, Balthali is celebrated as a “village beyond time.” Isolated from the noisy vehicular traffic of urban highways, the village rests on a fertile plateau surrounded dense pine and rhododendron forests, sparkling freshwater streams, and stepped hillside farms growing seasonal mustard, potatoes, and rice.

The area serves as a paradise for gentle trekking and family-friendly nature walks. Popular local trails lead to the sacred Ladareshwor Mahadev Temple situated near the river gorge, the cascading Ladku waterfall, and scenic cultural walks connecting traditional Tamang settlements like Dada Gaun and Karna Gaun.

In recent years, Balthali has emerged as a premier hub for community homestays and eco-resorts. Visitors can experience authentic organic Nepali hospitality, fresh farm-to-table meals, and peaceful sunrise views over snow-capped Himalayan peaks right from their cottage balconies.
