Listing Description

Mahendranagar, the previous name of Bhimdatta, was chosen to honor the late King Mahendra of Nepal. The city has a lengthy history that goes all the way back to the early days of the Khas people. It was a key hub for Nepalese and Indian trade and commerce during the Middle Ages. The city played a significant role in the trade of items including jute, tea, and spices during the British Raj in India. The city continues to thrive as a significant economic hub for cross-border trade between India and Nepal after India attained independence.

Bhimdatta is located in the far-western area of Nepal, in the district of Kanchanpur, Mahakali Zone. Due to its proximity to the Indian border—just 5 kilometers to the east—the city serves as a crucial hub for trade between the two nations. The region surrounding Bhimdatta has a subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. It is primarily flat with a few tiny hills.
