Dadeldhura, a district of Sudurpashchim Pradesh, is located in the western portion of Nepal. This region is renowned for its distinctive desert-mountainous terrain, which is peppered with numerous temples. Although not being a well-known tourist attraction, the area has some hidden gems for those prepared to stray from the road. The Dadeldhura region has a long history that dates to the Malla dynasty period. One of the seven Malla kingdoms in Nepal was the Far Western Malla Kingdom, with Dadeldhura serving as its capital. Prior to the unification of Nepal, Nagi Malla was the final king of the Far Western Malla Kingdom. Under King Prithvi Narayan Shah’s direction, the area was crucial to the unification of Nepal.

It is located at a height of 1,740 meters above sea level and has a surface area of 1,538 km2 (594 sq mi). The region’s desert-mountainous topography is distinguished by deep valleys, rough terrain, and picturesque mountain views. Many religious temples may be found across the area, which is a reflection of the region’s rich cultural legacy.

Attractions Nearby:

The Dadeldhura district may not be a well-known tourist attraction, but those willing to investigate may find many undiscovered treasures there. Some of the nearby tourism attractions are:

  1. Tibet’s Mount Kailash: Dadeldhura acts as a local route to Tibet’s Mount Kailash. Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon adherents all pay homage to this sacred mountain, making it a well-liked site for pilgrimages.
  2. Ra Ra Lake is a magnificent high-altitude lake that is situated in the Humla area. The lake is surrounded by stunning mountains and is a well-liked place for walking.
  3. Remains of the Far Western Malla Kingdom: Dadeldhura is home to the final survivors of the Far Western Malla Kingdom. For history buffs, a trip to these historical locations is essential.

Transportation:

Dadeldhura is linked by road to Kathmandu and other significant Nepalese cities. There are taxis and buses that go between Kathmandu and Dadeldhura. By car, it takes between 16 to 18 hours to travel from Kathmandu to Dadeldhura. A flight from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi and a cab or bus ride later will get you to Dadeldhura.

How to get there from Kathmandu:

Take the Mahendra Highway west towards Dhangadhi to get to Dadeldhura from Kathmandu. You can take a taxi or a bus to get to Dadeldhura from Dhangadhi.

You must see the historical sites connected to the Far Western Malla Kingdom while you are in Dadeldhura. Also available are local routes to Mt. Kailash in Tibet and treks to Ra Ra Lake. The region is renowned for its distinctive desert-mountainous scenery, which presents a wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities.
