Listing Description

In Nepal’s Province No. 2’s Dhanusa District is the sub-metropolitan city of Janakpur, sometimes referred to as Janakpurdham. It is a well-known destination for religious and cultural travel, drawing numerous tourists from all over the world. In addition, the city has been designated as the interim capital of Province No. 2 until the Province Assembly selects a permanent capital. Oral history claims that before Janakpurdham, which was established in the early 18th century, there was a city in the same location bearing the same name that served as the old Videha dynasty’s capital and dominated the Mithila region.

The well-known Hindu shrine Janaki Temple, also called Janakpur Dham, is devoted to Lady Sita, Lord Rama’s bride. It is located in the Nepalese city of Janakpur, which is part of the Dhanusha region. This temple, which is regarded as one of Nepal’s most significant religious monuments, draws a sizable number of visitors and pilgrims from all over the world.

Janaki Temple in Hinduism and history

In Hindu mythology, Sita is said to have been born at Janakpur, which bears her father King Janaka’s name. According to legend, the temple was erected where Sita’s post-marriage home was. The temple’s walls and pillars include beautiful carvings in a typical Rajasthani design. The statue of Sita is located in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, along with statues of Lord Rama, Laxman, and Hanuman.

Geographical Details:

In the Terai area of Nepal, Janakpur is about 135 kilometers from Kathmandu, the country’s capital. It has excellent air, train, and road connections to other regions of Nepal. The Janakpur Airport, which is about 20 kilometers from the city center, is the closest airport. Also, there are frequent bus connections from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and other significant cities to the city, which is well connected by road.

Attractions for travelers:

In addition to the Janaki Temple, Janakpur has a number of other tourist destinations. The Ram Mandir, a shrine to Lord Rama that is close to the Janaki Temple, is one of the most well-known sights. The temple is decorated with exquisite sculptures and murals that show Lord Rama’s life.

The Mithila Art Center, which displays the traditional Mithila art form, is another well-liked destination in Janakpur. Paintings, pottery, and other handicrafts created by regional artists are on display at the center.

Another well-known holy location is the Dhanusha Dham, which is located around 15 kilometers from Janakpur. It is thought that this is the location where Lord Rama defeated Lord Shiva and won Sita’s hand.

Moreover, Janakpur is well-known for its vibrant festivals and fairs. The most well-known holiday is Ram Navami, which honors the birth of Lord Rama and is observed in April. The festival is observed with a lot of fanfare and draws a sizable following from all around the world. Also, there’s a Bharat Gaurav train journey, popularly known as Ramayana Circuit that include Janakpurdham in it’s journey.
