Located in the Dolpa District of Nepal at a height of 3,611.5 m (11,849 ft) above sea level, Shey Phoksundo is an alpine fresh water oligotrophic lake. Phoksundo Lake has a surface area of 494 hectares (1.91 sq mi), a volume of water of 409,000,000 m3 (1.441010 cu ft), and a discharge of 3.715 m3/s (131.2 cu ft/s). The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology conducted a survey in 2004 and determined that the lake’s greatest depth was 145 meters (476 ft).

Phoksundo Lake was named a Ramsar site in September 2007.

The settlement of Ringmo is situated on the landslide dam that created the lake, which is 30,000–40,000 years old, at the southern end of the lake.

The lake’s water flows over a 167 m (548 ft) tall cascade past the dam.

Located in the village of Ringmo in the Dolpa District in the Karnali Zone of northwest Nepal, Phoksundo is also a village development committee. The population of Nepal in 1991 was 457 people, distributed across 94 different families.

Shey-Phoksundo is advertised as being the deepest lake in the nation, yet this isn’t the only thing that makes it famous. Phoksundo is an exotic turquoise blue, surrounded by dense forests and rugged crags. The spectacular snow-capped Himalayan peaks that surround the entire picturesque scene make for a sight that will live long in the memory.
