Listing Description

Hile, a small hill town in the Eastern region of Nepal, lies 13 kilometers north of Dhankuta Bazar, the region’s administrative headquarters. It is well-known for its erratic climate variations, which make it a distinctive tourism destination. The village is surrounded by verdant hills, and tourists enjoy visiting because of the friendliness of the locals.

HISTORY

Hile’s history may be traced back to the Middle Ages, when it was a significant hub for trade and business. The settlement was a stopover for traders going between Tibet and India. Hile developed into a tiny hill town with a unique identity and culture over time.

ATTRACTIONS

Tongba, a well-known alcoholic beverage derived from the Kodo plant, is famous in Hile. Tongba is prepared in a distinctive fashion by the locals, who also offer it with a pipe called a Pipa and in a wooden bowl. Tourists must taste the beverage because it is thought to provide the body energy and warmth.

In addition to Tongba, Hile is renowned for its stunning landscape and expansive views of the neighboring hills. With numerous trails heading to the adjacent hills and forests, the town makes a great place to go trekking and hiking. It’s the ideal place to unwind and relax because of the verdant green woodlands and calm atmosphere.

GETTING THERE

From Kathmandu, the nation of Nepal’s capital, you can take a bus or a jeep to Hile. The trip from Kathmandu to Hile takes about 12 hours, and the meandering roads can make it tiresome. An alternative is to fly to Biratnagar Airport, which is about 3 hours’ drive from Hile, and then take a local bus or cab to get there.

Local buses or shared jeeps can take passengers from Kakarbhitta or other eastern Nepalese cities to Hile. The trip lasts about 6-7 hours and gives stunning views of the surrounding area.

Our Recommendations

Nepal Tourism Hub recommends Hile as a stunning hill town that provides visitors with a distinctive experience. Hile has something for everyone, from its surprise climatic fluctuations to Tongba, the indigenous alcoholic beverage, and breathtaking scenery. Its amiable residents and welcoming culture make it a must-see location in Nepal.
