On the south ridge of Pumori, in the Everest region of Eastern Nepal, sits Kala Patthar, a popular tourist attraction. In Hindi, Urdu, and Nepali, the word “Kala Patthar” translates to “black rock”.

Usually, the trek to Kala Patthar starts at the town of Lukla, which is reachable by plane from Kathmandu. Before reaching the top of Kala Patthar, the trip then passes via Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep. The trek is difficult since acclimatization to the high altitude takes many days, and participants must be physically fit and mentally prepared for the inclement weather.
