Listing Description

Eastern Nepal’s Jhapa district is home to the religious and tourism destination known as Kankai Dham, often referred to as Kotihom. The Kotihom Mahayaggya, a significant ceremonial rite held in 1985 AD under the direction of Yogi Naraharinath, a prominent figure in Nepal’s religious and historical fields, led to its establishment. Since that time, the location has gone by the names Kotihom and then Kankai Dham.

On the eastern side of the Kankai Mai river, which runs through the heart of the Jhapa district, is where Kankai Dham is located. There are more than two dozen small and large temples, inns, and cloisters in the vicinity, which has an area of around 10 hectares. The area is enveloped in rich vegetation, and the picturesque view of the river and hills only enhances its natural beauty.

Tourism Attractions in the Area:

The Domukha, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, and the Gufa Pokhari are just a few of the tourist destinations close to Kankai Dham. Wetland habitats like the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve are home to numerous bird species, including the critically endangered Bengal Florican. The Gufa Pokhari is a well-known pilgrimage place in Eastern Nepal.

Transportation:

Kankai Dham is conveniently located. Visitors can take a bus from Kathmandu to Surunga-Jhapa, a small town on the east-west route, and then ride in a rickshaw for ten minutes to get to the location. Another choice is to take a 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapure, and then a 30-minute cab journey, to go to Kankai Dham.

What you must do when visiting:

The holy Kankai Mai river, which is said to have purifying properties, is open to visitors for bathing. Visitors can also take in the breathtaking scenery of the area’s natural beauty, take pictures, and unwind among the residents to get a glimpse of their remarkable way of life. Another activity that visitors can take part in is birdwatching. Guests can take a stroll to see rural life and sample regional food.

Nepal Tourism Hub recommends Kankai Dham, often called Kotihom, as a well-liked religious and tourism destination. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities there, like taking a dip in the revered river, taking in the beautiful scenery, and learning about the local way of life. Tourists can also explore adjacent tourist destinations including the Gufa Pokhari, Chandragiri Hills, and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.
