A Formidable Challenge for Peak Climbing and Mountaineering

Pumori is widely celebrated by mountaineers as a magnificent peak that presents a rigorous challenge for both aspiring and seasoned climbers. While Class 3 is recognized as the simplest route up the mountain, climbers must remain acutely aware of substantial avalanche risks along the slopes.

Historically, the first successful ascent was achieved on May 17, 1962, by Gerhard Lenser of a joint German-Swiss team. Decades later, in the spring of 1996, Czech climbers Leopold Sulovsk and Zdenk Michalec pioneered a brand-new technical route up the mountain’s challenging south face.
