General Information

Eastern Nepal’s Illam district contains the breathtaking destination of Sandakpur. With a height of 3665 meters, it is the district’s highest peak (11,930 feet). On the Singalila Ridge, Sandakpur is located along the boundary of West Bengal, India and Nepal. The peak is a well-liked destination for hikers and trekkers because it is situated on the outskirts of the Singalila National Park and has a small settlement and a few hotels on its summit.

One must first travel to Ilam, which is roughly a 13-hour journey or a 45-minute flight from Kathmandu, in order to reach Sandakpur from Ilam. Visitors can either drive or climb up to Sandakpur from Ilam. The ascent to Sandakpur is difficult but worthwhile as it travels through verdant forests, colorful rhododendron fields, and picturesque valleys.

With a fusion of influences from India and Nepal, Sandakpur’s indigenous culture is rich and diversified. Sherpa, Rai, and Limbu people, who are renowned for their friendliness, hospitality, and distinctive rituals, make up the bulk of the local populations. By visiting traditional villages, participating in local celebrations, and sampling regional specialties like momos, thukpa, and churpi, visitors to Sandakpur may fully experience the local culture.

The breathtaking panoramic vistas that Sandakpur offers are one of its key draws. Four of the five tallest mountains in the world—Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu—can be seen from the top. Given that Sandakpur is one of the few locations in the globe where the entire range is visible, the view of the entire Kangchenjunga Range is very spectacular. The views of the dawn and sunset from Sandakpur are equally magnificent, as the shifting light casts a variety of hues on the snow-capped peaks and surrounding scenery.

Sandakpur provides guests with a variety of outdoor activities in addition to its breathtaking scenery. Due to the abundance of beautiful routes in the area, hiking and trekking are common sports. The Singalila National Park offers visitors the chance to go bird viewing, mountain riding, or on a vehicle safari to see animals including red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and musk deer.

Nepal Tourism Hub recommends Sandakpur as a place that both nature lovers and adventurers should visit. It is a singular and remarkable experience because of its breathtaking scenery, vibrant culture, and a wide variety of activities.
