General Information

Perched among the tea-carpeted hills of Ilam District in Koshi Province, Shree Antu (also known as Antu Danda) is one of Eastern Nepal’s most picturesque hill stations. Situated at an elevation of approximately 2,328 meters above sea level near the Nepal–India border, this destination is world-renowned for offering the very first views of the morning sunrise in Nepal, sweeping views of Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), and lush green tea estates.

Antu Danda View Tower offers a legendary morning spectacle as the first golden rays illuminate the eastern hills, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Kumbhakarna, and distant landscapes extending into Darjeeling and Mirik.

🚣 Boating on Antu Pokhari

Nestled below the ridge, Antu Pokhari (Antu Lake) is a tranquil pond fringed by pine trees and tea bushes. It features pedal boats, wooden bridges, and quiet pathways favored by couples and families.

Explore manicured orthodox tea gardens, observe traditional tea picking, and visit local processing factories to sample authentic, freshly brewed Ilam black and green tea.

Location & Access Routes

Shree Antu is located in the southeastern region of Ilam District, near the Mechi Highway corridor:

  • From Fikkal / Kanyam: Branch off the Mechi Highway at Chhipitar (near Fikkal Bazaar) for a 15 km scenic uphill drive.
  • From Bhadrapur Airport (Jhapa): Roughly a 2.5-hour drive (approx. 70 km) through Jhapa’s plains up into the tea hills.
  • From Ilam Bazaar: Situated about 35 km to 50 km southeast of the district headquarters, taking roughly 2 hours by jeep.
