Rulers such as King Sansari Bamm and Emperor Prithvi Malla developed Dullu as a thriving political and cultural center. In 1354 AD (1414 BS), Emperor Prithvi Malla erected the legendary Kirti Stambha (Kriti Khamba) in Dullu, which preserves the oldest long epigraphic genealogy in the ancient Nepali/Khas language.

The 19th-century royal palace of the Dullu principalities—crafted by Newar artisans from Kathmandu with 18 rooms and 36 intricately carved wooden windows—was severely damaged by fire and bombardment during the conflict period in 2002. Rather than letting the site fade into oblivion, community preservation efforts and municipal initiatives helped establish the Dullu Cultural Museum within the surviving historical compound and traditional pauwa complex.
